How Can a Hurricane Ida Claim Attorney
from GCIA Help Me?
If your home was damaged by Hurricane Ida, it is important that you file your Hurricane Ida claim as quickly as possible, for any damage covered under your policy. The Consumer Federation of America estimated on September 1st that the federal flood program would handle as many as 100,000 claims from Ida, totaling more than $7 billion—and that was before the storm hit the Northeast (in hard-hit Louisiana alone). This is just a fraction of the entire cost of Hurricane Ida, which some experts believe will top $95 billion.
Hurricane Ida claims are likely to take a significant amount of time for those that have had their homes damaged—or destroyed. Attorney Peter Diiorio is dedicated to solving problems and making things right. Since some insurance companies may try every trick in the books to avoid paying your claim from Hurricane Ida, the individualized attention and diligent representation we provide our clients can truly make a difference in the outcome.
Hurricane Ida Affected Areas
Hurricane Ida, a Category 4 storm, made landfall on August 29th, 2021, near Port Fourchon, about 10 miles southwest of Grand Isle. The winds were up to 150 mph, with the hurricane-force winds extending 50 miles from the center.
The director of Jefferson Parish Fire Services, Bryan Adams, said between 40 and 50 percent of the homes on Grand Isle were destroyed, with all the camps damaged. Terrebonne Parish was left with catastrophic damage, including impassable roads due to downed trees and utility poles and non-functioning electricity and water utilities.
Orleans Parish was ripped by Ida with Entergy’s eight transmission lines knocked out. Jefferson Parish residents were also left without power and were told it could take up to six weeks to restore the power. Near Lafitte, an unincorporated area of Jefferson Parish, the storm surge overtopped the levee, leading to unprecedented flooding and devastation for homes and businesses alike.
Insurance Claims Following Wind and Flood Damage by Hurricane Ida
While many areas were hard-hit by Hurricane Ida, Louisiana residents have borne the brunt of the storm’s devastation. One Louisiana parish, Lafourche Parish, saw 14,000 people without homes after 75 percent of the structures there were either severely damaged or totally destroyed. Lafourche Parish was told they would likely not have power restored to their area until September 29th, or longer.
The lack of power, excess heat, and issues associated with water and fuel have increased the danger from the hurricane, as heat stroke and other illnesses have become everyday occurrences for those who were in the path of Hurricane Ida. Many residents in Tangipahoa Parish have been taken to other parishes due to the ongoing power outages. As New Orleans residents struggle to rebuild their lives, it is likely to be a very long time until things in the area return to anything resembling “normal.”

At Gulf Coast Insurance Attorneys, we help individuals involved in disputes with their homeowner’s insurance following a natural disaster like Hurricane Ida. We step in when your insurance company refuses to pay the full amount you are owed. We understand the position you are in and know you need immediate help to repair your home—just as your insurance company promised when you signed up and paid your monthly premiums.
If your home was damaged by Hurricane Ida, insurance experts say you should file your claim as quickly as possible. The process for filing a Hurricane Ida claim can be complex and confusing. If you fail to follow proper procedure—even in the smallest way—your claim could be significantly underpaid or even outright denied. While you might assume otherwise, insurance companies are actually not in the business of paying out claims.
Adjusters are trained to resolve claims for the smallest amount possible—or find an exclusion in the policy that might even remotely apply and deny the claim outright. It is extremely important that you read and review your entire homeowner’s policy, including any amendments or endorsements so that your Hurricane Ida claims will be fully paid as quickly as possible.
Call Gulf Coast Insurance Attorneys Today for the Help You Need and Deserve Following Hurricane Ida Damage
Speaking with an experienced Gulf Coast Insurance Attorneys attorney soon after your Hurricane Ida damage can ensure you do not inadvertently make a mistake that could end up costing you in the future. As an example, never agree to be recorded during a phone call, and never provide a recorded or sworn statement to your insurance company until you have spoken to an attorney. Whenever possible, communicate in writing rather than via a phone conversation. If you do have a phone conversation, follow up immediately with an email or written letter to reiterate the essence of the conversation.
As soon as you are able, create a detailed list of all damaged or destroyed property, adding a brand name, model, and an accurate description of any claimed item. Nothing is too small to add to this list. If you are entitled to reimbursement for the contents of your home, you will want to claim everything that was lost or destroyed. As you document the damage to contents and to your home, ensure the photographs are time and date-stamped.
If you have any repairs done prior to being paid by your insurance company, keep careful records, including receipts. To avoid having your insurance company claim the damage was pre-existing or unrelated to the Hurricane, gather up all records or prior repairs or inspections of your home. Our Gulf Coast Insurance Attorneys attorneys can evaluate your policy, determine what your insurance company should pay, then make sure the insurer does pay the full amount owed in a timely manner.
